Occupation Categories Under Work Permit Scheme
The Work Permit Scheme is applicable for the occupations under following situations :
  • Work Permit for all Occupations : Apart from occupations that are contrary to public interest, the Work Permit can be obtained for all occupations if the immigrant’s yearly salary is EUR 30,000 or more, excluding bonuses.
  • Work Permit for Limited Occupations : The Work Permit can be obtained for an extremely restricted number of occupations if the immigrant’s salary is less than EUR 30,000 per year.

 

Ineligible Job Categories List
The Work Permit is not granted for the occupations that come under this list. The list includes the following occupations :

Labor Market Needs Test
The job vacancy sought after by the applicant under the Work Permit Scheme is first advertised in the FAS/EURES employment network and newspapers (both local and national) for at least three days. This is done to ensure that the vacancy cannot be filled by any citizen of the EEA countries or Switzerland, Bulgaria or Romania.
 
Processing Fees
  • First time application processing fee for up to six months : EUR 500
  • First time application processing fee for any period between six months to two years : EUR 1000
  • Renewal processing fee : EUR 1500 for period up to three years
  • Processing fee for indefinite renewal after completing five years : No Fee
 
Intra-company Transfer Permit Scheme
Intra-Company Transfer Permits are granted only to senior management, key personnel, or trainees. This plan allows immigration of higher resources like foreign senior management, key personnel or trainees to Irish offices or Irish branch of a company. The resources are transferred to Ireland from an MNC or a foreign branch.

Under this plan, an Irish employer can hire a foreign citizen to work for a specific duration for which the permit is granted. When the permit expires, the transferee must go back to his country. Intra-Company Transfer Permits are given only to those who earn EUR 40,000 per annum. To qualify for this plan, the employee/transferee must have been working for at least 12 months with the overseas company prior to the transfer.
 
Senior Management includes :
  • Those who manage a company or one or more departments or subdivisions or functions or a unit of the organization
  • Those who supervise or manage either the tasks or employees at supervisory, professional or managerial posts
  • Those who control a vital function within the company or a department/subdivision of the organization
  • Those who possess the power to recruit or dismiss the employees, or influence personnel actions- like promotion and leave authorization
  • Or those who work at the top level within the organizational hierarchy
  • Control execution of the daily activities or functions
 
Key Personnel includes :
Key personnel are the ones who have a special know-how about a service/research equipment/technique/management. The worth of their knowledge is judged on the basis of experience and educational qualification.
